A hypertrophic scar is a cutaneous condition characterized by deposits of excessive amounts of collagen which gives rise to a raised scar, but not to the degree observed with keloids. Like Keloids, they form most often at the sites of pimples, body piercings, cuts and burns. They often contain nerves and blood vessels. They generally develop after thermal or traumatic injury that involves the deep layers of the dermis and express high levels of TGF-β. When a normal wound heals, the body produces new collagen fibers at a rate which balances the breakdown of old collagen.
Signs & Symptoms
Keloids expand in claw-like growths over normal skin. They have the capability to hurt with a needle-like pain or to itch without warning, although the degree of sensation varies from person to person. Hypertrophic scars are red and thick and may be itchy or painful. They do not extend beyond the boundary of the original wound, but may continue to thicken for up to six months.
Keloids are formed due to scarring caused by injuries like burns, acne, chickenpox, ear piercing, scratches etc. Hypertrophic scars are caused due to tension on the wound and excess collagen formation.
Platelet Rich plasma is injected into the scar along with or without Injection Triamcinalone follower by laser or microneediling. the procedure is done once in 3 to 4 weeks. The number of sessions depend upon the size and years of the scar
a)Face and Ears Scars can be formed in face due to burns and in ears due to piercing. The keloid or hypertrophic scar whichever formed can cause irritation or itching and also unpleasant to the eye.
b)Rest of the body Scars can be formed in any part of the body depending upon the location and intensity of the injury.
